My eyes are going to start bleeding soon from all the history essay outlines and notes and assignments.
Right: One of our cheerful Bintan Resorts guides. He never introduced himself so I don't know his name.
Above: Bumboat ride from Changi Jetty.
Right: Ixora, plentiful along the road in Ubin.
Galls don't just come in green! Infected rubber/tapioca leaves on the left. The leaves in Ubin looked generally a lot unhealthier than both L. Peirce and BTNR. Fallen branches and browning leaves (no, not red young fake ones) everywhere. Many plants had been ravaged by galls.
Yenlin looked/was really pensive on the boat ride there. But of course, I must have broken her train of thought, haha.
Grimace grimace grimace. I really detest taking photos, esp close-up, because somehow I always end up tilting my chin higher than I should. Like this:
Last and final Net Carn.
Right: Grace Yeo as Centre for 415.
Advanced Env Bio is getting better. :D At first it was kind of a drag, but I think when the field trips start coming in, it'll get more exciting. The first session was particularly sleep-inducing, maybe I was too tired, all the same despite being in the front row I nearly fell asleep during the Planet Earth video. Not surprising - I'd slipped into unconsciousness once watching the Planet Earth, which Arts Central conveniently placed in the 11pm slot.
Second session of AEB was spent preparing pan and pitfall traps, which my group - Yen Lin, Arias, Andy, E-lynn and me - placed under a tree near the neighbouring condo's tennis court. After having done that, we helped with the sampling of the 8 by 8m quadrat on the slope.
For today we tabulated results and tried to identify the insects we'd collected from our traps. Amazing - even though I knew there was bound to be lots of types of insects, the sheer variety was simply stunning. And they were all small - what more those we couldn't see? I love studying animalia. Riveting to say the least.
There you go: from top to bottom, unidentified insect larva, Blattodea (cockroach), Odonata (dragonfly).
The cockroach was our biggest catch, whereas Shihui's team managed to capture insects at least twice the size. Both our groups found garden toads floating in our traps. We, however, buried ours.
If you look closely, you'll see that the larva as this black part in its body. I suspect it's the guts. I haven't asked Mr. Lim though...
The cockroach looks remarkably ugly, as always. The oval shape is to allow it to slip between cracks and crevices. The two things sticking out from its backside are protrusions. Mr. Lim says he's not sure what they're for. I wonder. Who needs hairy extensions sticking out of their ass? :\
The dragonfly isn't particularly extraordinary I suppose. It was cool to see it's eyes up close though. Ah for the love of biology.
I hardly like anything this noisy.
