Yesterday got off to a bright start in school where I met with Hanners, Melly, Lintong, Claire, Alyssa, Stacey, and I-refuse-to-name-everyone, and we sat there happily for Miss. Tan to come. AShe was carrying bags of food, which she proceeded to dump on us one by one- one row of Oreos, one row of Ritzes, one row of chocolate Oreos, followed by Burger King hashbrowns. While we waited for her to go to the staffroom and back, we finished the hashbrowns in a painstakingly orderly manner. We also sang "Happy Birthday" to a disoriented Suvi, who could not see with her fogged glasses.
We trundled off to the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve in a tiny bus. It appears Miss. Tan knows just about everyone in the National Parks circuit. She knows all the rangers (at least those we met), and nearly every serious nature watcher we met on our way up (and down). The trip to BTNR was, as usual, a wonderful learning experience. A testament to the fact that my knowledge of the rainforests is far from acceptable. Humbling as always, to learn from the experts.
1 liana on the blue trail
something creepily beautiful about this climber. (I bet you didn't catch the pun.)2 heritage tree
sorry, in my usual loser manner, I forget to take down the name of this tree.
here's why: the humidity levels in the rainforest are affected and naturally some plants will die while others- including parasites- will thrive.
on other things, my relentless search for the ever-elusive Wild Cinnamon ended yet again in failure. Miss. Tan says that it is more commonly found in the secondary forests, while the area we studied was largely primary. I would dearly love to mountain-bike the place when I get better.
After that I hitched a ride from Hannah and waited for Mom at the Newton MRT. It was quite a terrible time at the point, and I refuse to elaborate. My mom is brilliant.
I had claypot lunch at Sunshine Plaza. I found it very salty indeed, but my mom dismissed my opinion, saying she'd brought me up to eat less salty food. She went on to finish my claypot rice for me. (NTS: No more claypot rice.) I went gallivanting around the shopping area and found a little niche shop called Chemicot, for what reason I cannot fathom. It's a pretty cool shop for the quirky. It's got vintage-auntie-cross clothes and PVC bags of Tintin, Starbucks, and all those things. It's a decent $19.90. It's also got some necklaces and such, but a little on the expensive side, I should think.
I had my second last art class of the year after that. I shan't delve into much explanation, save the procedure:
1 get a picture you like.
2 use poster colour and paint it on the gao li rice paper, ensuring some gaps are left between the 'outlines'. poster colour should be think and leave a few unpainted spaces in between.
3 for a nice effect, as Mrs. Ho claims, dabble contrasting colours together, like red and green. o_O
4 when the painting's dry, crush it up, flatten it again, and flip it over.
5 use mo (chinese painting ink) and use a large brush to paint the back of the rice paper.
6 leave to dry.
and next week I will learn more steps and update you, friends.
